The Ski Day Trip Essentials: Everything You Need

This is my full list of The Ski Day Trip Essentials: Everything You Need! A day spent on the mountain skiing or snowboarding, is a day well spent! Do you ski or snowboard? Or interested in getting into one of the two fun winter sports?

I ski, and have done so for about ten years now. I love it. The majority of my winter days are spent skiing.

There is nothing worse then when you arrive at the mountain and you realize you forgot something once you are two hours + away from home. I have come up with a list of everything needed for a ski day! Check out this list before your next trip to the mountains! –

All the ski gear needed for a day trip to the mountains laid out on the floor.

The Ski Day Trip Essentials: Everything You Need-

Whether you like to get dressed at the car and head right to the lift all ready to go! Or bring everything into the lodge, get dressed where itโ€™s nice and warm then get going. This list pertains to both!

Before leaving home for the mountain, I like to put on my thermals just so that step is done. Put just your base layer on for the car ride then add more once you arrive, that way you don’t get too hot.

Boot bag

Having a boot bag/backpack is a huge help. Your boots fit into the bag perfectly as well as everything else but your skis/board and poles. If you like to get ready in the lodge, just put your boot bag on your back, poles in one hand and skis over your shoulder!

Ski boots

Donโ€™t forget these!

Skis or snowboard

Another necessity.

Poles

Only if you like to use them, you will be fine if you forget these!

Helmet

For safety and warmth. I canโ€™t imagine skiing without mine.ย I love my Bern Helmet!

Jacket

Hang this over the back of your seat in the car so you donโ€™t forget it. Itโ€™ll be a cold day without your jacket.

Snow pants

To keep you dry and warm!

Ski socks

Make sure they are ski socks and not regular socks, this makes a big difference. Always have an extra pair in your bag.

Liner gloves

For when you want to use your phone on the lift, adjust your jacket, etc. When your hands/fingers are out in the freezing cold air it doesnโ€™t take long for them to get numb.

Mittens

Bring a good pair that you know are warm and waterproof! Mittens over gloves because they keep your fingers warmer. Especially when holding ski poles!

Added layers

Your extra layers over the base you start with from home.

  • A pair of joggers over your bottom thermals
  • A thick flannel over your top thermal
  • A warm down vest, sweatshirt or zip up for your top
  • Any additional layers you feel you might need

Neck warmers/balaclavas

Always have extras in your ski bag! These can get lost easily. Itโ€™s also so nice to have a fresh one to change into halfway through the day.

  • Bring a dri-fit material base layer neck warmer or balaclava
  • Bring a longer one that fits over to keep you extra warm

Goggles

Whatever style you like, just be sure to bring a pair! If you don’t have any, at least bring some sunglasses. These are my favorite ski goggles!

Hat for under your helmet

This helps keep your head very warm. Bring a thin hat and try it on beforehand to be sure it fits under your helmet.

Hand + toe warmers

Always have multiple of these in your ski bag! Start off the day with them in your boots and mittens or put some in your pockets just in case. On a very cold day, put one next to your phone in your pocket to keep it working.

Headphones

A must! There is nothing like skiing to a great playlist all day! I recommend bringing the corded type so you donโ€™t lose them.

Ski pass

If you have one, be sure you have it in your ski jacket. I always double check to make sure I have my pass.

Cellphone

I bring mine for music, to track my ski day, photos and in case my friends and I get separated.

License

Bring this if you are the driver and/or if you want to get a drink at one of the lodges.

Credit card

Good to always have.

Cash

Good to always have.

Lunch box with a delicious ski lunch

If you want to save some $$ pack a lunch! Your future self will be so happy you did. Some of my go to food/snacks:

  • Pb&j
  • String cheese
  • Clementines
  • Goldfish
  • Chocolate
  • Granola bars
  • Apple
  • Cheese & crackers

Water bottle

Bring a reusable one. Leave it in the lodge with your ski bag then before you leave refill it for the car ride home.

Beer/seltzers

My friends and I like to grab a pack on the way to the mountain and put a couple in our pockets to start off the ski day!

Flask

Fill it up before you leave your house and leave it in your ski jacket. This will be sure to warm you up on the lift.

Extras

Having extras of anything is always smart. I like to leave extras for whatever I can fit in my ski boot bag: extra liner gloves, helmet hat, ski socks, neck warmers, thermals, hand + toe warmers, headphones, etc. You or your friends might forget something…if it doesnโ€™t take up too much room, keep extras in your bag!

Car charger

Be sure everyoneโ€™s phones are charged up for listening to music and in case you lose each other on the mountain you can get in contact!

Fresh socks

It feels good to get out of the ski socks youโ€™ve had on all day into a pair of clean socks for the car ride home.

Comfy shoes

Very important! You want to make sure the shoes you wear to and from the mountain are comfy. When you take those heavy ski or snowboard boots off, slipping into something soft and comfy is the best. I recommend old pair of Uggs you don’t mind getting dirty or something similar.

Beanie

Ski helmet hair is quite the lookโ€ฆI like to immediately put on a beanie or baseball hat when I get out of my gear for the ride home.

Thatโ€™s everything on my list, The Ski Day Trip Essentials: Everything You Need! It might seem like a long list here but believe me it ends up being just a backpack full plus your skis/snowboard + poles.

Whether you leave it all in your car or in the lodge itโ€™s a good feeling to know you have everything you need at the mountain. Yeah you can always buy whatever you forget but that can get very expansive, fast.

Do you ski or ride? If so, are there any other necessities you always bring to the mountain that I forgot? Let me know in the comments below!
