How to Spend the Day at Pigeon Island (St. Lucia)

This guide will teach you How to Spend the Day at Pigeon Island (St. Lucia)!

Pigeon Island is full of so much beauty, history and adventure.

A great place to explore for a day while visiting St. Lucia, it only costs $8 for the day for adults and very easy to get to! There is so much to do here: snorkeling, hiking, relax on the beach and explore ruins. The dreamy island so unique, full of history, adventure and amazing 360 views different than anywhere else in St. Lucia.

While visiting St. Lucia in late December, I spent most of one day on Pigeon Island. I’m really happy I ventured over for a day.

In this post, I will share everything you want to know before you visit for a day too!

How to Spend the Day at Pigeon Island (St. Lucia)

Getting there

There are some hotels on Pigeon Island but if you are staying on the main Island of St. Lucia you’ll have to take a water taxi over.

You can setup a ride with your hotel. Once you get on the water taxi it’s a quick ride.

The national landmark is open daily from 8:30am-5pm.

Snorkel

When you arrive at the dock you’ll see snorkel rentals nearby or you can bring your own.

You can setup a tour ahead of time or snorkel off the coast line on your own.

Find your own area and get in the water, lots of beautiful fish to be seen!

Hike

Hike up to Fort Rodney and Signal Peak. It’s totally worth it for the amazing 360 views!

It’s 225 feet high so a pretty moderate hike, sneakers are reccomened but doable in flip flops.

When you get to the top of Fort Rodney, along with the amazing views you can also check out the bunker and cannons.

Make sure to bring water for the hikes, especially on a hot day.

Explore Military Ruins

On the island you will find 18-century military ruins.

You can find ruins on a few places on the island. You will see some on the lower level, on the top of Fort Rodney, and on the path between Fort Rodney and Signal Peak.

A lot of history here, give yourself an hour to walk around and check it all out. Here’s a link to read more about the history of Pigeon Island.
